#33 • Americana Folk Art Hand Painted Figures

Part of Online Only Multi Estate Auction January 25th, 2025 @ 10 a.m. (live auction by Valley Auctions)

High bid $80.00

Status: Sold

Painted terra cotta and/or composition heads with molded clay hair. Clothing made of molded and painted thin canvas cloth. Some degree of wire armature, and wooden body parts. Some of the wires move parts of the body but others do not or are broken. All have a hand painted number that possibly indicated placement in a diorama or puppet type theater, except for the headless body. There are six complete figures but the highest painted number is 11. One figure appears to represent George Washington, one Paul Revere, another Lafayette. One with hat and gun may be a frontiersman. We do not know the history of these figures. The loose head and body do not match. Most figures have an extensive amount of damage with missing limbs, broken hats and accessories, missing paint, etc. George Washington is 13 inches tall.
